Last night was quite a sight to see because it was very reminiscent of last season. The Rays were in a bit of a skid and enter Ben Zobrist to knock the game winner. Then our bullpen hangs on to pick up the win. Let’s hope that was just the spark the Rays needed to go on a bit of a run. Today’s game should be a low scoring affair as a pair of established lefties face off. Mark Buehrle has been solid so far: 1-0, 2.38ERA, 11.1IP, .190AVG. A win today pulls them to .500 at home, and .500 on the year.
What To Watch For:
Scott Kazmir has been stellar thus far, however in his last start, he was spotted a nine run lead in the second. Today should be a good test for him against a tough White Sox lineup. Let’s see if he can keep getting first pitch strikes and mix in his slider more. Also Kaz went 6IP in his first start, then 6.2IP last time out on the hill. Let’s see if that number can increase and Scotty K work a seventh inning.
Although both are lefty, Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena have had good success against Buehrle. C.C. is 12-25 lifetime against Buehrle and Pena is 11-35 with a homer. Pena has been swinging a hot stick as of late, but Crawford is 0 for his last 11.
As inspired by a comment from last night’s game, we’re going to go with the B.J. Upton/Carl Crawford combination. Akinori Iwamura/Jason Bartlett have been doing their part, and Carlos Pena/Evan Longoria combined lead the league in homers. So let’s see if B.J./C.C. can start getting on the bases and wreaking the havoc we all want to see, especially with A.J. Pierzynski behind the plate.
